Young Russian Artists: The Rite of Spring
26 APRIL 2021 - 17 MAY 2021Notes
"This series of still life drawings was created in Los Angeles during the pandemic in March 2021. By observing seasonal fruits and vegetables that people buy in local grocery shops, I tried to show the beauty of our everyday living scenarios. The drawings are an exploration of ordinary shopping choices. My work examines subjects including the environment, domestic objects, the meaning of artefacts, and dialect between technology and craft.
I am inspired by Minimalist Surrealism, and the study of individual theories. I endeavour to combine these theories with a considered abstract narrative, often with sentimental undertones and humour.
I make a conscious effort to use mixed media that covers a range of platforms from physical sculpting, drawing, analogue photography, through to digital formats such as photogrammetry and video installations. Combined in the right way these formats provide me with the dynamics to form a narrative, however, I’m careful to avoid forms of symbolism, offering the viewers a space for their own interpretation." - Daria Filatova, 2021.
