Notes

Sheila grows and puts together a vegetable box for us each week. It always comes with the greens’ stalks wrapped in tin foil to keep them fresh, and she always finishes it off with nasturtium flowers on top. I think that the more connected the chain is from land to growers, to sellers, to buyers, the more care, joy and gratefulness is felt. These are her beetroot.

Ruth is interested in the relationship between humans and the material world: how we shape matter, write meaning into it, and are shaped by it.

MA (distinction) and BA (2.1) in Art History at The Courtauld Institute of Art (2012-16).
Diploma in portraiture (2-year full time) at The Heatherley School of Fine Art (2016-18).
Prizes include the Emerging Artist Bursary for Devon Open Studios (2021) The Heatherley Portrait Prize (2018) and the ‘Worlds End Studios Prize’ (2017). Selected exhibitions include the ‘Ruth Borchard Self Portrait Prize Exhibition 2019’ at Piano Nobile and the ‘Royal Society of British Artists 2019 Exhibition’ at the Mall Galleries.

Art residencies include the ‘CWND Artist Residency’ in Canary Warf, the art residency ‘Continuum’ at Husk in Limehouse and several art residencies on construction sites across London including Fenchurch Street and Battersea Power Station.
