Terrence Higgins Trust, The Timed Auction 2021
18 FEBRUARY 2021 - 11 MARCH 2021Notes
Michael Scoggins studied at the Savannah College of Art and Design and the prestigious Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. His work is held in permanent collections at the MOMA, the Gettysburg Museum amongst many others, along with several prestigious private collections. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
Scoggins’ COVID-19 / Black Lives Matter Drawings Series are his immediate responses to a rapidly changing world.
He says: ‘It’s hard to find the words for anything when the world seems to be spinning off its axis… the future is unknown and I’m finding making art difficult. So, I just sketch and write and look inward and these works are the results of that introspection. It’s the personal and the political; it’s pandemics and revolution in unadulterated form. I don’t know where they will go but maybe that doesn’t matter, it should be about the moment even if that moment doesn't really make sense. Do I see four horsemen approaching?’
This work was produced for PROJECT PAPYROPHILIA.
