Notes

Conservatory Archive is one of a series of botanical paintings by London based artist, Fred Coppin.

Fred's distinctive style draws on the great British painters of still life and the nude such as Euan Uglow. There is a sense that Fred is pinning down a scene using markers and undercoats of paint to get the composition right.

Whilst his painting is representational, and in seemingly traditional, painted 'glitches' appear to serve a reminder that this is the artists perception of light falling on an object, or a very personal way of explaining the tricks of perception and colour.

Working largely in oil paint, South London based artist Fred Coppin captures an eternal sense of optimism in his work through a distinctive combination of amplified colour and playful forms.
