Notes

Marisa Añón portrays the iconic figure of Freddy Mercury through simplified shapes and vivid colours leaving only essential features.

At the forefront of her work is her interest in colour, environment and personal narratives. She explains that "the colours of the Mediterranean coast where I live are part of my identity but they are also the inspiration for my palette." In this work Freddie Mercury is seated, at what could be a cafe in the sun, casually smoking.

As a conservator of artworks, Marisa has worked professionally with all types of artworks from Gothic retables to large master paintings. Her extensive and intimate experience working with classical paintings has a huge impact on her own painting, she highlights the 'sense of pictorial lushness and harmony of colour.

Accolades

Marisa has a degree in Fine Art, from Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain and is a qualified conservator and restorer of artworks. Her paintings are in private collections all over the world.
