Notes

Autumn Light captures the warm glow of a late evening sunset in the South Lakeland district of Cumbria. One of the artist's more dramatic works, the fiery terracotta hues contrast with the cool blues of the sky above. As the sun touches the horizon it is reflected off the calm sea.

In Jonathan Speed's captivating paintings, light diffuses and abstracts the scene. Drawing on the great tradition of landscape painting, these carefully worked oil paintings give a sense of the scope and drama of the natural world.

Working predominantly in oil paint, the medium allows him a subtlety of tone to capture the ephemeral light and weather conditions.
