Art on a Postcard (AOAP) is delighted to have engaged the curating skills of Mollie E Barnes AKA She Curates to produce a mini auction as part on The Hepatitis C Trust's 20 year celebrations. Mollie is an Independent Curator based in the south England. Keen to address the gender and equality disparity in the art world, Mollie founded She Curates (@she_curates_). in 2020, a platform aimed at championing the voices and stories of women and queer artists around the world.
The auction consists of 30 plus cards created by a handful of dynamic female identifying artists including Olivia Sterling who graduated with an MA from the RCA in 2020 and has carved out a distinctive niche in using paint to address questions of race. Helen Downie AKA Unskilled Worker whose work has been described as ‘a melee of ethereality, innocence, inherent flow and instinct that all come together in a spectacular fashion’. Sarah Long whose work re-examines visual hierarchies and art historical traditions and New York based artist Bianca Nemelc a figurative painter, whose work explores the connection between the female form and the natural world.
Mollie has put together a strong collection of artworks with an eye on emerging talent such as Okiki Akinfe, a recently graduated from The Slade as well as the bigger names.
“It has been an absolute pleasure to work along AOAP. To have utter creative freedom is such an honour as a curator. The responsiveness and excitement demonstrated by this esteemed and incredible group of artists is a true testimony to the immense work that AOAP does every day” Mollie E Barnes
To complement the auction Mollie has been working closely with Art on a Postcard to create some great content, including a podcast and some short films.
All the money raised goes to The Hepatitis C Trust and its campaign to eliminate hepatitis C by 2030.
About The Hepatitis C Trust
The Hepatitis C Trust is the national charity for people with hepatitis C. It is a patient-led and patient-run organisation; most of its board, staff and volunteers have had hepatitis C themselves. It is committed to eliminating hepatitis C in the UK by 2025. Its strategy is based around pillars of better prevention, increased diagnosis and treatment for all.
It has established strong partnership models of working with substance misuse and homeless service providers across the UK. In substance misuse services, it delivers staff training, peer-led education about the importance of testing and availability of new treatments, and personal one-to-one support from initial diagnosis through to treatment. It runs a range of support services, including a confidential national helpline run by staff and trained volunteers who have all had personal experience of living with hepatitis C.
Helpline staff also provide patient-centred responses via email and run a designated prison freephone helpline service for prisoners across the UK. Its policy and parliamentary team works across the UK Parliament and the devolved nations to ensure hepatitis C stays firmly on the political agenda. It also publishes a range of reports and resources on aspects of the hepatitis C care pathway.
