Notes

The subject of the charcoal drawing is Jill Bays, who is eighty-nine and my wife’s mother. She is an accomplished watercolourist and author of seven books on watercolour painting.

Antony Williams is a London based painter, and member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. Antony works almost exclusively in egg tempera which can be a painstaking and exacting medium, but which allows him to express a deep feeling about the look of the world. All of his work is based on direct and intense observation, and as a result can produce a very heightened sense of realism, where every surface detail is given almost equal and constant consideration. Antony has had the privilege of painting Her Majesty The Queen! (Words of Antony Williams)
