Notes
Danish-born and Bordeaux-trained, winemaker Peter Sisseck produces one of Spain's most highly-rated (and highly-priced) wines. He established Domino de Pingus, his pioneering estate in the Ribera del Duero, in 1995; by 2000, it had become fully biodynamic.
His flagship wine is simply called Pingus. Made exclusively with fruit from very old Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) vines, Pingus is built to last for many decades; typically, only 500 cases are made each year. In poor vintages, Peter does not make it at all.
The bumper, high-quality vintage of 2018 was anything but poor, and this magnum of Pingus is an extraordinarily rare, sublimely flavoured wine: Robert Parker awarded it a maximum 100 points. And it has impeccable provenance: it comes from Peter's own cellar, and he has also signed it.
Donated by Peter Sisseck.
