Notes

John Leach was the son of David Leach and eldest grandson of Bernard Leach who had pioneered the revival of English studio pottery.  John established his own pottery at Muchelney in the Somerset Levels where the famed Leach “kitchen pots”, as he modestly called them, are made using local stoneware clay. The exteriors are unglazed but have the characteristic toasted finish achieved through firing to a high temperature. This jug carries John Leach’s personal seal and the date, confirming that it is the work of his own hand.
