Art for Ukraine

‘During part of the covid-19 pandemic lockdown, I had very limited access to supplies, with only a few boxes of oil pastels and paper at hand. It was an introspective period that inspired a number of poetic pieces, Flame being one of them. French philosopher, Gaston Bachelard, had written that “thanks to the flame, the solitude of the dreamer is no longer the solitude of emptiness". The caress of this flame is thus the metaphor of a longing for contact. I hope that this work will bring light and warmth to those who urgently need it, those who seek way of imagining new worlds and of fighting against the darkness that savagely and unjustly besieges them.' - Jose Bonell 

Jose Bonell (b. 1989) is a Spanish artist who lives and works in Barcelona. He is the artist in residence and co-director at Unica Edicions. Bonell's works are part of the Piramidón Centre d'Art Contemporani Collection in Barcelona, as well as the Collection de la Ville in Vitry-sur-Seine.
