Notes

This artwork was created in response to the Global Pandemic restrictions. I considered the complex nature of containment and its relationship with safety and risk.’ – Catherine Lette

Catherine Lette’s work is concerned with the human figure, questioning the impact of contemporary life on the body and mind. Lette explores the way in which, bombarded with images and information, we have normalised ‘a constant noise of interruption’ that should be seen as unsettling. Inspired by current events, Lette works from life, memory and collage to explore this embodiment and disembodiment in the real and virtual spaces that we occupy. Her work often uses humour and irony to investigate the personal and societal anxiety that underpins daily life.

Catherine Lette is a practising painter living and working in South London. Lette holds a BA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martin’s and is currently developing her practice on the Turps Off-site Painting Program. In 2021 Lette was shortlisted for the Jackson’s painting prize, published in Art Maze Mag, selected for ‘Ones to Watch’ by AucArt and participated in multiple group shows and curators’ selections. Her work is held in private collections in the UK and Internationally.
