Art for Ukraine
01 APRIL 2022 - 25 APRIL 2022Notes
Anna Woodward’s practice looks to create fantasy worlds that sit between utopia and dystopia. Focusing predominantly on oil on canvas, she creates works that possess unique intensity and depth. Woodward is drawn to contemporary artists such as Julie Curtis and Jane Hayes Greenwood whose practices sit between surrealism and hyper-realism. She paints in a series of layers that are broken into different painting languages, from the loose washes of oil paint and the highly rendered and voluptuous tubes that snake their way around the painting, to metallic rods that are engulfed by biomorphic forms. These aspects come together to create an overgrown and wild world, influenced greatly by Heiromous Bosch, Dorothea Tanning and Cinga Samson. .
Anna Woodward (b.1998) is a London based artist currently studying an MFA at City and Guilds of London Art School. Woodward has exhibited in London apart of multiple shows and recently contributed a work to Art on a Postcard, International Women’s Day Auction.
