Notes

About

Emma has always been motivated by the world around her, natural or man-made. Whether it is the landscape on her doorstep or from the wider-world of travel. Having spent many years as a successful Art and Creative Director, in the magazine industry, in 2018 Emma returned to fine art, and was a successful hyper-realism pencil artist for a number of years, before nearly three years ago, turning to the freedoms that abstract painting brings. Working in oils, her semi-abstract and abstract paintings express an atmospheric ambiance, much like viewing a literal landscape ~ the works reveal themselves the more you allow yourself to be immersed within them. As the painting evolves, form and structure become blurred and non-distinctive, replaced by an emotional place or being ~ which often evokes a sense of melancholy and self-reflection within the viewer.

Education

Initially undertaking a Foundation year of Art Education, with emphasis on drawing and photography at the University of New South Wales, Sydney; Emma then completed a Bachelor of Graphic Design, University of Canberra before a embarking on a successful career in the magazine industry, both in Sydney and London, with further design study at Central Saint Martins, London. Her painting style is largely self-taught.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork

‘Drifting’ and ‘Solitude on the Common’ ~ both works very much convey what is an integral part of my practice; that freeing and allowing ourselves to seek the mental release from daily routine. Being within nature and letting our minds wonder, finding comfort in the solitude ~ that the journey is as, if not more important, than the destination ~ it can often set us on a happier, more fulfilling path.
