About 

Fiona Grady's colourful and dynamic geometric artworks include architectural interventions that transform their setting alongside exploratory works on paper and in glass. She utilises light, colour, shape, surface and scale to ensure each unique work is transformational and impactful. Her works metamorphise with the light of day, reflecting the passing of time, memory and experience to create ambient environments. Born into a family of mathematicians she has always had a keen eye for balance using ratios of numbers, harmonious colours, and systematic approaches to intervene within a space. Her artworks recognises the relationship between architecture, installation art and decoration; referencing traditional techniques such as fresco painting and stained glass in a contemporary context.

Fiona Grady has had solo exhibitions at University of Brighton; Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff; and The Eye Sees, Arles, France. She has been commissioned worldwide by organisations and institutions including: Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, Canary Wharf Group, ITV, Heals London, Walthamstow Wetlands Visitor Centre, British Land, Watts Gallery Artists' Village, Kensington + Chelsea Art Week, NHS Nightingale Projects, and Kensington and Chelsea Council. She was been awarded grants from the Mark Rothko Memorial Trust Bursary and Arts Council England.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork 

I have created three screenprinted postcards, they are propositions for stained glass windows panels. Each unique postcard contains layers of transparent coloured shapes that build to create a vibrant palette of colours the represent fragments of a design.  

Through my art practice, I aim to discover contemporary approaches to stained glass in both traditional and new media formats.  In recent years the tradition of glassmaking is becoming endangered due to high production costs, mass manufacturing techniques, and a lack of apprentices to carry on the skills. However, there is nothing more magical than experiencing the beauty of stained glass. I seek to question why it is so alluring, how can celebrate the skills of glass making and explore its visual language.
