Jennifer Smith is a visual artist, painting, from rural Ireland now based in Giessenburg in The Netherlands. Jennifer is also founder of Clovermill Artist Residency. Clovermill is a free collaboration Residency with an international discourse based on the grounds of an old water mill in The Netherlands.  
She received a Bachelor Degree of Fine Art, Painting in 2005 in Ireland. It was in Limerick that she first began exploring the female nude on large canvas, writing her thesis on perceptions and representations of the female nude.  
Her work has been exhibited in Ireland, London and the Netherlands and several online exhibitions.  
Highlights in her career include a solo show in Ireland. She was one of six young artists selected to exhibit with the Young Art Crowd at the Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork   

The works I created for AOAP are a continuation of my current series of paintings and the exploration of a female gaze, inspired by Greek Mythology. Since I returned to painting in 2012, the idea of the gaze has become increasingly more important in my paintings. For me the Gaze means a freedom of expression and representation of the female nude seen through the eyes of a female artist. My paintings respond to a narrative influenced by social media, gender roles, representations of the female body, and perceptions of female beauty. These works were created with acrylic and ink. They present Greek Goddesses Hera and Selena. The reference of mythological characters add meaning to the paintings.
