Art on a Postcard x St Wilfrid's Hospice: The Postcards II
14 SEPTEMBER 2023 - 03 OCTOBER 2023Notes
About
A peripatetic childhood meant hanging on to the one thing I could do; drawing. Luckily, different people asked me to write and illustrate children’s books, make landscape pictures and, one time, create and write an animation series. I’ve continued to hang on to drawing ever since.
Education
Many schools...then a BA art degree from Brighton Uni (in the previous century when it was a polytechnic).
Select Exhibitions/Awards
I won a pocket New Testament in a school art competition when I was 7 yrs old and an enormous bar of chocolate in a national Cadbury's art competition when I was 10. I can trace the roots of my atheism to when I first opened the little book. I much preferred the chocolate for my sins.
Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork
The 'stage fright' picture is me unfairly testing the nerves of an imaginary creature when they first walk out on stage; 'yellow bird' is remembering a song from my younger daughter's nursery days; 'ghost girl' is an experiment in discovering how close you get to the picture before you see the ghost; 'Lear’ is based on an etching by my older daughter and a homage to Mark's wonderful anatomy teaching.
