About
Rebecca Tucker, b. 1973, lives in Greater London and owns an Interior Design company in Wimbledon. She is a Lancashire born/London based painter, with a BA in Fine Art from Reading University 1996 and is currently studying with the Turps Banana Art School on their Off-Site Programme. Her paintings are the result of a visual ‘discussion’ between abstract and more representational methods of depicting subjects. Tucker is keen to play with the viewers perception of emotion, mood, subject and space in her paintings and then pull that preconceived idea back to the appreciation of what are essentially abstract marks on a two-dimensional surface.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork
Rebecca Tucker’s works are the result of a visual ‘discussion’ between abstract and more representational methods of depicting subjects. Working with negative space and what is ‘left out’ as much as what is there, Tucker enjoys utilising the innate ability of the human brain to fill in the gaps and find something physically and emotively recognisable in what are essentially abstract marks on a two-dimensional surface. These marks are imbued with the power to suggest fabric, the fall of light, a body, an object, a subject, and evoke a memory, an emotion or summon something familiar to our minds. Tucker’s use of materials and processes is constantly evolving. For these pieces, diluted ink and carbon paper drawn lines, washes of ink and the use of the crisp white negative space of paper allows for a variety of marks and an essentially experimental approach to flourish.
