Artwork description
Brisa. 2016. South Atlantic Ocean. From the point of view of color psychology, warm colors stimulate the mind and provide energy while cold colors, especially blues, inspire calm and are usually associated with states of melancholy. In his essay Adrift in blue (2013-2016), a project carried out in southern Argentine and Chilean Patagonia, Janowski uses the semantic relationship between colors and emotions. Entirely worked in bluish tones and implemented in a multimedia platform, Adrift in blue explores an extreme territory and its diverse imaginaries, surrounding its myths and legends with the lens in a compendium of visual stories that ranges from chronicles and travel logs from the European expeditions to the current scenario dominated by extreme conditions but also by the growing exploitation of natural resources.
Bio
Nicolas Janowski (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1980)
Janowski works between art, documentary practices and curatorial processes. His work is linked to the concept of territory, the sense of belonging and hybrid identities from an intersectional perspective in Latin America. The aspect of historical context is central in his narrative as well as its diffusion through transmedial and expanded platforms. Trained as anthropologist and visual artist, Janowski's projects are characterized by using different mediums to support, complement, narrate and articulate stories: Offscreen sound, narrative sound, text, cartography and archival images are some elements often used in Janowski’s projects to recreate the idea of territory and habitat. His oeuvre is part of public and private collections. Argentina’s National Beaux Art Museum & Moscow’s Contemporary Art Museum among others. He is a Board member and part of the international agency MAPS images and is represented by Vigil Gonzales (Peru) & Almanaque (Mexico) galleries.
