Notes
The work is explores the artist’s ongoing examination into the nature of femininity that goes beyond womanhood. Menacing and soft at the same time, the painting invites the viewer into the space of the muse who in her sensuous vibrancy, listens to Billie Holiday in her room while caressing a carefully nuanced papaya. The reference to Billie Holiday plays into the artists long time fascination with the melancholic genre of jazz and Holiday’s depiction of women in love in her songwriting.
