‘07.05.2017’ is a beautiful photograph from James Tarry’s Mind State Project series – a collection of landscape photographs the artist took to represent experiences with anxiety, depression and stress.

A circle encloses each scene, compressing the viewer’s gaze to imitate feelings of anxiety and depression. Yet whilst the isolated landscapes portray the loneliness associated with these feelings there is still a pocket of hope. Trees and objects in the centre, symbolising the strength and determination to thrive, stand proud and strong against the encroaching surrounds and banish all negative feelings.
