Fundraising Auction Art Academy London - Timed
28 APRIL 2023 - 18 MAY 2023Notes
Defiant Woman is the latest in my long-running series on Womanhood, the first work of which was back in 2005. Based loosely on my wife but made entirely from memory, the piece is about female power. The figure while exposed and vulnerable pushes back fiercely at the viewer. The tree trunk pulls in the other recurrent thread in my work and lifelong love, trees. I admire the life-force that courses through the form of a tree, and I'm sure it's that same force I've tried to give form to through the Woman series.
Defiant Woman, completed 2023, is in an edition of 3, each one uniquely surface treated. This is 1/3. The AAL Christie's art auction will be her first public showing.
Damian Fennell has practised fine art sculpture, drawing and painting since graduating from City & Guilds of London Art School in 2000. He was AAL's first tutor alongside founder Tanya Russell in 2000 and then Vice Principal up to 2007. He went on to become Creative Director and then MD of Europe's biggest CGI and VR production house for real estate, and in 2021 founded MaxQ Consulting, a digital transformation consultancy for real estate. Sculpture and 3D still define his entire existence.
