'Human' Nature
14 SEPTEMBER 2023 - 05 OCTOBER 2023Notes
Ziqi Chen’s practice is informed by cosmology and existential curiosities reflected in dream experiences. Her creations, a testament to years of dream journaling, unfold liminal space and figurative dreamscapes. Ziqi portrays nocturnal, apocalyptic alternate realities, each capturing a haunting sense of the uncanny that emerges when contemplating urban environments or nature during afterhours. These visions encapsulate the temporal nature of nighttime, oscillating between the mundane and the extraordinary, beckoning a journey beyond reality and the tangible.
By incorporating technological tools, such as AI programmes, to generate reference pictures from dream content, her work invites critical engagement with the evolving relationship between art, technology, and culture in the digital age.
