Notes
The cover artwork for Editors' 2013 album The Weight of Your Love.
The manager of the English rock band, contacted the fine art photographer Charles Emerson after seeing this work in a group exhibition in Bristol.
The artist went on to supply this photograph for their 2013 album and four further works from his 'flowers series' for the album's subsequent singles: Honesty, Formaldehyde, A Ton of Love and Sugar.
Charles Emerson's fine art aesthetic is created by layering multiple images on top of one another, almost to a point of abstraction to disrupt the straight reality of the subject matter. This technique imbues the original object with a richer emotion, deeper meaning and creative narrative.
This technique is done by physically building up printed layers or by using overlaid abstract film layers on digital files.
"I don’t aim to be a documentary photographer or to become overly fixated with the
physical representation of a subject. The aim is rather to create works that ask the viewer
to question the methods and meaning within my practice."
