Life on Venus | The Landscape, Timed Auction
08 DECEMBER 2020 - 14 DECEMBER 2020Notes
"My practice is painting with oil on silk over other surfaces such as canvas and board. It is work that examines everyday images. I am drawn to paint the often overlooked details around me. Photography is essential in my work and I am never without my camera.
My recent series of paintings explore the theme of the Sojourn. These include works that are made with references to the many significances of a journey, moments that are transient, small details and changes in light on a repeated journey or walk. I use the layered quality of oil and wax over silk on canvas to convey a transparency that brings a translucency to the colours.
The Sojourn series are a documentation of the year gone before, the work in this exhibition is made in 2020 from photographs I have taken in 2019.
How the pandemic influenced my subject matter.
During the lockdown in 2020, I began to focus on new subjects, painting eggs represented the fragility I personally felt. Using Best Before dates to title each egg study. On my daily walks I explored new areas and subterranean passages in my locale, these had an otherworldly feeling to them, representing hiding/sheltering from danger.
Recent exhibitions include The Royal Academy Summer exhibition 2015, 2019 and 2020. Discerning Eye 2020. Columbia Threadneedle Prize exhibition 2018."
