Notes

Lauren Baker, born 1982, from Middlesbrough, UK. Currently lives and works in London.

Lauren Baker is a British contemporary multidisciplinary artist who exhibits internationally. Her work explores human connection, metaphysics and the expansiveness of the universe. Lauren's signature neon works portray the power of energy through her poetic typographic and celestial chakra artworks. Passionate about environmental issues and sustainability, the artist uses light to express the 'secrets of the universe' and aims to raise the vibration of love and connection within the world.

Her large scale celestial public art installations have been commissioned in the UK and as far as the Middle East. Most recently, sculptures - inspired by the frequency of the Sun and the Moon - both at 4 metres tall, were placed in a Unesco Protected World Heritage site in the desert (Mar 2020).

Commissioned by Croydon Council to create a 7.5-metre neon across a bridge (2017), Lauren's neon typography is renowned for bringing hope and joy. She has created installations at The V&A, Tate Britain and Tate Modern and her work are held in collections worldwide.

With a focus on environmental sustainability, Lauren is an Ambassador for One Tree Planted, as well as Save Wild Tigers, and has done multiple collaborations with Help Refugees. Her artwork has raised over 70k for charity. Lauren has a MISSION to plant 8888 trees in the Amazon. In 2019, the artist focused on environmental art activism installations ‘Letter To Mother Earth’ at Tate Exchange and ‘An Open Dialogue With Nature’ at Saatchi Art’s The Other Art Fair.

Recent works visually interpret unseen energy. Lauren listens to sound frequencies and gets in a meditative state to digitally paint auras and energy, she then incorporates diamond dust, neon and kinetic elements to create celestial artworks. Her collection ‘The Immensity of The Universe’ was released in Saatchi Gallery (Sep 2018) which consists in a sensory experience that explores the origins of the universe and the intriguing beauty born from destruction and chaos.

Baker’s most intricate work, which sold for £420,000 to an influential sheikh in Qatar, is a Steinway grand piano encrusted with half a million crystals (Feb 2015). The Crystal Tigress; a sculpted life-size tiger head encrusted with 52,000 crystals, which toured Asia, and was endorsed by Jimmy Choo and Jaime Winstone, fetched £30,000 at the tiger conservation charity auction for Save Wild Tigers. (2014).

In 2012 her art career started with a life-changing trip to South America. Lauren joined a mosaic street-art project in Brazil and took part in ceremonies with shamans in the Peruvian Amazon jungle surrounded by dense vegetation and wildlife. She then researched the best place to study mosaic in the world and developed her skills in Venice (Orsoni, 2012). Lauren later specialised in ‘Site Specific Installations’ (The Art Academy, 2017), and became as certified ‘Creativity Coach’ (Mindful Talent, 2019), also giving lectures on ‘Blue sky thinking’ and ‘Creativity Triggers’ at The Institute Of Art & Ideas (2019). The artist continues to research outer space as a personal interest reflected in her ‘Immensity Of The Universe’ series.
