Notes

Kelp Forest
“Kelp forests are not only beautiful but are one of the most productive habitats on Earth. They create vital habitats for animals to thrive, remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, alter the movement of water, and provide a buffer against storm surges, slowing down coastal erosion. Kelp only grows in the cool temperate and polar regions of the planet, but global warming could make the water too warm for them to survive. Losing our kelp forests would cause a ripple effect, impacting the many species that depend on them, ourselves included. As a passionate ocean conservationist, I wanted to take this opportunity to display the vibrancy and beauty of kelp forests, and draw attention to their significance for our ecosystem.”

Sarah Sheldon
"I work as a Community and Events Administrator at Surfers Against Sewage, managing our Million Mile Clean project and helping to put on events to inspire other ocean activists to take action. I’ve always very much enjoyed art but it’s always been a very sporadic hobby! When I found out there was the chance to contribute to this project however I decided to take the plunge and try out my skills. I have always been fascinated by the sea, and have especially enjoyed scuba diving. Going below the waves and seeing the water’s surface from below is an out of this world experience. This project has inspired me to continue to test my artist skills and see what else lurks below the waves."
