Terrence Higgins Trust, The Timed Auction 2021
18 FEBRUARY 2021 - 11 MARCH 2021Notes
David Lock’s paintings draw from popular culture and are an investigation into masculinity and an articulation of the experience of being gay in the 20th century.
Lock lives and works in London, and comes from a family of great talents. Queer playwright Joe Orton who scandalised 60’s London was his uncle. He studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths and the University of Reading and subsequently joined Candoco Dance Company as a dancer for several years, before returning to his fine art practice in 2005.
His painting El Muniria was selected for the John Moores Painting Prize in 2018 and subsequently purchased by the Walker Art Gallery for its permanent collection. He has exhibited his work both nationally and internationally. He is currently working for a commission for Hospital Rooms for 2021.
This lot is kindly donated by David Lock.
