Notes

Paula Rego was born in Lisbon and has lived in the UK since the Fifties. Rego is one of Europe's most influential contemporary figurative artists and was part of the London Group with David Hockney and Frank Auerbach. She was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 1989 and became a Dame of the British Empire in 2010.

Rego’s main theme is women, and her psychologically-charged paintings and drawings explore the depiction of women in a controlling, misogynistic society. The drawings in the Misericordia series are inspired by the writings of 19th-century Spanish novelist Benito Pérez Galdós.

This exclusive edition has previously not been available for sale.
