Terrence Higgins Trust, The Timed Auction 2021
18 FEBRUARY 2021 - 11 MARCH 2021Notes
Simon Keenleyside studied painting at the Royal College of Art and is known for his masterful ability to manipulate perspective and depth of field when rendering his vivid fluorescent topographies.
This work on paper continues to investigate Keenleyside’s ongoing interest in the landscape. Depicting his chosen environments with an ability that discloses the mystery and ambiguity surrounding them, he not only evokes physical places, but also the mental states, desires and anxieties that accompany him during his visits. They produce a sense of unease and tension but are at the same time mystical and bewildering landscapes.
This work was produced for PROJECT PAPYROPHILIA. PROJECT PAPYROPHILIA is an ongoing work on paper initiative curated by international gallerist, curator and artist Zavier Ellis (director of CHARLIE SMITH LONDON). The project was launched in response to the first lockdown in order to support artists during challenging times. All work is unique. New work is consistently offered on www.artsy.net/charlie-smith-london. To enquire or for further information please email Zavier at [email protected].
This lot is kindly donated by Simon Keenleyside and CHARLIE SMITH LONDON.
