The Beat Goes On

22 SEPTEMBER 2021 - 30 JANUARY 2022 (UK time)
Sophie Breitmeyer, 24 Powis Terrace, London, W11 1JH Exhibition

The Auction Collective presents a private selling exhibition exploring how we borrow from, and lean on, tradition to shape a new and invigorating present.

The Auction Collective at Sophie Breitmeyer

The Beat Goes On is exhibited at Sophie Breitmeyer, Notting Hill. Sophie Breitmeyer has a reputation for giving traditional jewellery a contemporary feel. The West London studio, designed by Sarah Peake and styled by Twig Hutchinson, encapsulates her style and ethos; contemporary art and furniture sit alongside treasured antiques which tell the family history of jewellery making.

The Auction Collective is delighted to bring together 20 contemporary artists for The Beat Goes On. Artists in this collection, such as Gillian Garnica, Jamie Temple, Susan Vera Clarke and Hayley Wall, master traditional print-making techniques to create exceptionally contemporary, fresh work. Others such as Fabio Almeida and Jon Taylor have modernist values at the heart of their upbeat geometric work. Traditional painting subjects such as landscape, portraiture and still life are renewed and reinvented by artists including Charlotte Macdonald and Alice Watkins. And landscapes as old as time are shot through a contemporary lens by photographers such as Tom Hegen and Ed Hopley.
