Notes

Black Boots, Black Cat hints at a story, or a conversation, but the stark cropping of the work leaves us guessing.

The work of London-based painter Louise Boulter, sits between abstract and representative art. She combines drawing from life with memory and imagination.

Her paintings have a carefully constructed flatness and a lack of perspective. This deliberately acts as a foil to her subject, which is often a form of social commentary. They are real, but not too real.

Work in this series explores an individual’s sense of isolation from the ‘outside’ world; a feeling of discord with one’s surroundings and oneself. The artist draws on reality and fantasy to mirror the fickle patterns of the mind.

Accolades
Louise Boulter graduated in 2018 with a BA in Art and Design.
