Notes

An imagined world inspired by the Aalto Armchair 41 - The Paimio Chair.

The Paimio Chair is a marvel of 20th century design. Its complex bentwood design greatly influenced the American designers Charles and Ray Eames.

Also known as the 'Aalto Armchair 41', it was completed in 1932 and is the best-known piece of furniture designed by the Finnish designer Alvar Aalto. Designed for the tuberculosis sanatorium in Paimio, the angle of the chair was intended to help patients breathe more easily.

The London-based artist Gilbert Leung merges reality and imagination in his art. He integrates everyday objects from his life with other objects, like the Aalto Armchair, that inspire him. Combined he creates fictional interiors that have roots in his architectural background.

Gilbert Leung is also including a larger gouache, Breezein this auction.
