The Spring Auction 2020

Carved from a single block of alabaster, Carved Bust II is a geometric, reduced depiction of the human form by the young British sculptor Rory Menage. 

Rory's work explores new possibilities in portraying naturalism. Carving and casting in raw materials such as wood, limestone and iron, he examines the position of object-making in our digitally saturated era. 

"I am interested in making fresh new forms of the human body using traditional materials such as stone, wood and iron. I am also interested in the roots of Cubism, and how we perceive not just sculpture but also ourselves in the digital age."

Awards: Winner of the Daiwa Foundation Grant for the Nara residency in Japan 2020.

Rory Menage's artwork has been shown at the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds, the Saatchi Gallery and McNamara Art Projects in Hong Kong.
