This painting was inspired by the mountains and inlets of the remote arctic islands of Lofoten in Norway.
"On this trip I used photography and quick paint sketches on location as methods of observation and immersing myself in the particular character of the area. 'Crystalline’ was made back in the studio. I paint flat using wide brushes, sponges and squeegees. I wanted to capture the stillness of the water and the clarity of light that gives the arctic such a unique quality."
Eva Ullrich is a landscape artist who's work leans towards abstraction. Born in the Lake District, she studied painting at The Glasgow School of Art and spent her time there exploring the Scottish landscape. This experience of landscape has always been a starting point for her work.
Recently Eva has gained inspiration from numerous research trips to remote locations in the arctic and the very particular qualities of light that occur there.
