To the artist, a parachutist embodies "freedom, abandonment, lack of control and slight madness".
True Optimism is a large-scale screen print created to evoke the sensation falling. As Nathalie makes her work she allows her imagination to take control and in this instance: "I thought how wonderful it would feel to fall on a bed of flowers."
The quirkiness of this print is borne of nostalgic wallpaper which acts as a background to the striking black and white image of the parachutist.
"I am interested in the new narratives that inevitably take place within the frame of the print. I often start with a very clear idea of what the final print should be like and I let myself carried away by a new story and dynamic in the process of printing."
Nathalie Kingdon is a French screen printer based in London at the Wimbledon Art studios.
