The Top 100 - Timed Auction
31 MAY 2021 - 24 JUNE 2021Notes
Dwayne Coleman, London, UK, is a multidisciplinary artist known for an inventive and resourceful practice that encompasses, works on paper, sculptures, installations, videos and most commonly painting.
His work demonstrates an emphasis on the notion of cultural exchange incorporating elements of local myth and legend, conveying a hidden moral within the work. Dipping into the pool of memories of his mixed-heritage and working-class background, Dwayne incorporates motifs from his council-estate, where he grew up, to convey a nuanced understanding of the specific conditions of human experience and perceived social or economic status.
Tying the Japanese concept of Boro patchwork with his own experiences, Dwayne resourcefully, dyes, sews and recycles his own materials into brick-patterned paintings.
