The Top 100 - Timed Auction
31 MAY 2021 - 24 JUNE 2021Notes
Laxmi Hussain is a London based artist exploring the female form and now, as a mother of three how motherhood fits into her role as an artist and can be explored through her art.
Laxmi has been drawing for as long as she can remember. As a child in London, she would lose hours after school, sketching on the counter in her dad’s corner shop. But it is only since the birth of her first child, that Laxmi has turned her passion into a profession. Re-inspired by the irrepressible joy in creativity shown by her children, she picked up the pencil once again, finding artwork to be a valuable means of reclaiming her own identity amid the emotional blurrings of motherhood.
Focusing on the body, Laxmi's work honours all bodies, asking us to explore what we consider the norm and understand that all bodies are different and deserving of being present in its own space. Often exploring close up details, Laxmi asks us not to overlook small details, small parts which we might hide, hate or ignore, to see all parts of us that make the whole and to understand that there shouldn't be one ideal, we should all be seen.
