Notes
“The image is derived from an advert in an old arms trade magazine. The ambiguity of the image is the origin of the smoke. One questions whether it comes from a grenade thrown in to the tank, from a smoke screening device emanating from the tank itself, from friendly fire or from the smoke filled rubble of devastation left in its wake. A boom for the arms industry either way...” - War Boutique

War Boutique was born in Glasgow and got into art and textiles through early involvement in theatrical costume, set and fashion design. He went on to study textile design at the Scottish College of Textiles (1996-2000) followed by a masters in fine art at Goldsmiths College (2007-2009). Creative work also involved stints designing defensive equipment and body armour, and he often recycles materials and iconography from these contexts.
War Boutique has shown in art festivals, street exhibitions, museums & galleries in Scotland, England, Europe, US and the Middle East.
