Daniel Dugan (b. 1978) is an American-Cuban artist who began his ‘personal, meditative style of art’ at the age of 10. He drew meticulous labyrinths: “one line” that never intersects and is uniformly spaced. It was a problem-solving exercise to test his patience and precision. Like labyrinths from centuries ago, the function is a spiritual one: to quiet the mind and wander forward through the path.
Graduating with an honors degree in biology/pre-medicine, Dugan worked in surgery thinking that’s where his steady hand belonged. But the line became his life-long obsession as its meaning slowly revealed itself. He came to understand that each work represents the flow of life with its unexpected twists and turns, each adding an unexpected value and balance. With each work, he practices this concept of not knowing.
Dugan currently has studios in Los Angeles, Mexico City, and Ibiza. His global residencies include exhibitions in Ibiza, Paris, Dubai, and Bali. And he has recently been collected by globally renowned art collector, Eugenio Lopez, owner of the Jumex Museum in Mexico City.
Dugan was recently profiled in Robb Report, Numéro Netherlands, the “Art Issue” of Angeleno Magazine, Zion St. Barth’s, and theNew York Post in their top 20 Photos of Art Basel Miami. El Heraldo de Mexico’s profile called him ‘El Artista de los Laberintos“ and his work has been featured in Architectural Digest China, Reforma, Quien, Traditional Home, and the LA Times.
