2019
Mimi reflects the idea of liberation, a freedom for women, in the ‘roaring twenties’ era. A sleek bobbed headed carved in soapstone combines with a sphinx like figure carved in limestone. Her clasps hands hug the corner of the block.
I am inspired by the shape of the stone as well as delving into what is beneath the surface. Fossils are revealed in the limestone and the beautiful surface of the soapstone demands to be touched.

Notes
To touch stone is to run one’s fingers over the passage of millennia. I find my forms by going on a journey into the material I am working on , following its texture, reading its history, allowing its nature to express itself.
