WTF?
14 JULY 2022 - 31 JULY 2022Notes
Salomé Wu is a multi-disciplinary artist who captures otherworldliness across all of the many art forms she uses. She expresses herself in oil painting, printing on silk, installations and performance. Through her varying mediums, Salomé aims to present nonlinear journeys, weaved with diverse moments to reveal narratives that were previously concealed.
“Otherworldliness to me is about not having a clear definition. It’s different from how we are told to see things and experience. It’s playful. Being able to think beyond the boundaries of meanings and the meanings we’ve been told to believe, to create and imagine something that does not conform to our conventional ways of perceiving.”
In her development as an artist, Salomé’s practice is anchored to the act of translating and reinterpreting her personal mythology, which for her is ever-evolving. To keep up with this dynamism, she acutely observes the notion of time, fragility, vulnerability, as well as the elusive interplay between physical reality and the unseen. As her pieces are delicate yet completed with soft ethereal motions. Salomé’s ability to convey delicate sentiments, and to let her personal mythologies always evolve with each of her interpretations, in her chosen mediums – make her a unique artist in the up-and-coming London art scene. Salomé received a BA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts in 2019, and she currently resides and works in London.
