Young Russian Artists: The Rite of Spring
26 APRIL 2021 - 17 MAY 2021Notes
“Ver Sacrum" is the name of a decadent magazine that was published in Vienna — the title was taken from Ancient Italian and Roman rites dedicated to spring. It’s thought that Stravinsky may have been inspired by the magazine.
“I used a symmetric heraldic hieratic composition mixed with surrealistic carnivalistic shaping of details and character. Ancient embroidery techniques feel like an adequate medium for the topic of this work.” - Rodion Kitaev, 2021.
