Aleph Contemporary for AccessArt
19 NOVEMBER 2021 - 17 DECEMBER 2021Notes
These works have evolved from various 19th century illustrations of Richard Wagner’s‘Ring Cycle’ opera. They are my visual response to the radicalism of the music and my own exploration of the problems surrounding 19th century romanticism that formed them.
When I start a painting, my main concerns are formal ones, namely, how different areas of colour and form can be balanced to create a visual intensity and pictorial tension. However, it is important to me that they have some figurative source that creates an extra dimension of narrative or symbolic content. I use materials in a spontaneous and intuitive way and also apply this to my choice of subject matter.
