Kean is a transgender-identified, chronically ill, disabled, artist, curator, and educator with a longstanding commitment to radical pedagogy, community building, and grassroots organizing. His practice is rooted in community engagement which is evident in his theoretical approaches to photography, and in his intention to use his arts practice as a bridge to political organizing. Kean received his BFA in Photography from SAIC in 2008 and hiw MFA in Photography and Media from CalArts in 2011.
Recent and upcoming exhibitions include Mapping Trauma (Summer Open with Aperture Foundation at Fotografiska NYC, 2020), Beyond Subjectivity (PhotoLA, 2020), FTM Searching (Czong Institute of Contemporary Art, South Korea, 2019).
