About

Luke Anthony Rooney is a London based multidisciplinary artist and designer working predominantly with collage and textiles. Exploring the construction of identity through sexualised and iconic imagery juxtaposed with objects which reclaim discriminative discourse.

Luke’s work is an exploration of silhouette, form and application. Exploring the construction of identity through sexualised and iconic imagery juxtaposed with objects which reclaim discriminative discourse. He uses collage to challenge and disempower any connotations to objects.

Historical movements and moments in popular culture influence the work in their Art, Textiles and Fashion practice as as well as a high technical standard within design.

Luke is a selected artist for Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2023 and had a solo show at Parlour Gallery, London and presented work in galleries such as Camden Art Centre, FILET Gallery, Nunnery Gallery and Coningsby Gallery.

Luke has shown fashion collections on schedule during London Fashion Week with On|Off Presents supported by the British Fashion Council and has received sponsorship from Christian Lacroix and collaborated with Andrew Logan on jewellery each season.

Luke teaches Textiles and Fashion at various London institutions such as Royal College of Art, London College of Fashion, Central Saint Martins and Middlesex University. Luke has undertook 3 research trips to Americas Deep South to work with the women of Gees Bend and to Native American reservations in Arizona to explore community textiles.
