About
Kwaku Osei Owusu Achim (b. 1991) is an emerging artist based in Accra, Ghana. His, vibrant, and bold stroke paintings got noticed in the art scene after his 12 month residency program at Noldor Residency in the heart of Accra Ghana. His practice explores various communication forms and finds ways to highlight the less acknowledged methods of interacting. Using hand sign language as a starting point, he pushes the boundaries of messages encrypted in challenging and intimate moments of the less privileged in our societies. He recognizes and performs its importance for those who rely on it to connect with the world beyond spoken language. This interest extends to how individual decision making influences collective interests. He dedicated his time teaching art to children with special needs at The New Horizon Special School in Accra. In response, Kwaku uses his practice as a powerful tool to amplify these voices and aspirations, creating a bridge of understanding and empathy. He has exhibited in the Chilli Art Projects in London and the Bermel von Luxburg Gallery in Berlin, respectively. He has been part of significant group shows in Gallery 1957, Accra, and Mitochondria Gallery Texas, USA, in recent times. To mention few, Kwaku has also been featured in the coll ection of Sir David Adjaye (New York, London, Accra) and Art Maison Marios (Berlin), as well as private collections from Abidjan, Lagos,London and the United States of America.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork
In creating these paintings, I was deeply moved by the plight of parents and children affected by war. Through my art, I seek to convey a message of hope, resilience, and the universal desire for peace. Each piece is a reflection of the strength and beauty that can emerge from adversity, and a reminder of our shared humanity. It is my hope that these works will not only raise funds for those in need but also inspire compassion and understanding in all who view them.
