Notes

Tom Beard's photograph of English indie rock musician, Florence Welch (aka Florence + The Machine), is inspired by 1920’s Hollywood sirens and the Polish modernist Tamara de Lempicka.

The photograph was used as the cover for the hit single Shake It Out. It was part of a series of photographs created around the release of Florence + The Machine's 2011 album The Ceremonials which included Shake It Out as track two.

London's National Portrait Gallery recently acquired Tom's photograph of Florence that was used as cover for the Ceremonials album. The work is now part of its permanent collection and is currently on display in the gallery.

Tom Beard spent his teenage years touring and snapping countless defining images and record covers for the likes of Florence & the Machine, Adele, The Horrors and Jamie T. Such is his success at capturing unique and beautiful images, his portrait of Florence for her 2016 Album How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful earned the artist a Grammy Nomination in the artwork category.

Tom’s passion for screenwriting has developed alongside his commercial and music video work, catching the eye of Creative England who have since commissioned Tom to write and direct his first feature, Two for Joy. Shot in September of 2017 and starring Samantha Morton, Billie Piper, Daniel Mays and Emila Jones, Two For Joy is true to his previous short films and has been shot on 35mm in association with Kodak.
