Notes

Originally from Bogotá, the London based artist Camila Quintero is inspired by the experiments of Josef Albers. In his book The Interaction of Colour, Albers' observes the relativity of colour and how our perception of a colour can vary enormously according to the other colours in close proximity.

The Faces of Colour explores this idea through the arrangement of geometric forms in a composition that repeats itself. Two forms which are painted the same colour appear different from one another because of the colour they have been painted next to. The work does not contain perfect symmetry but a cyclical motion with repetitive forms gives the work another illusory dimensions.

Camila explains, "I aim to explore the way that we perceive our surroundings and the subjective interpretation we have of those perceptions."

Camila's "optical distortions" span art, architecture, photography and design. "Deconstruction and optical distortion are recurrent throughout my work and refer to the response of the perceptual connection we have with our surroundings and the impact that they have on us."

A recent graduated of Camberwell College of Arts, Camila has already created a unique way to work with abstract geometry by using both fluid and controlled automatism.
