Young Russian Artists: The Rite of Spring
26 APRIL 2021 - 17 MAY 2021Notes
"When I was a child, when spring came, my mother would put everything unnecessary away – she would put winter clothes in wardrobes, and so on. She got rid of everything that had served its purpose. The onset of spring is in many ways the onset of new life, it is inception. In a new life you should never take burdensome "artifacts" with you.
Some rituals, which were an important part of the spiritual and everyday life of our ancestors, we still do today, despite their meanings being lost. In almost every culture, housekeeping is an important ritual – not only is it about keeping a house clean and removing dirt but with the arrival of spring it’s also about banishing negative energy." - Alina Zolotych
Alina Zolotych is a student at Moscow's HSE Art and Design School.
